Product Overview

Introduction 

ZXSDR R8863 (hereinafter R8863) is the distributed Remote Radio Unit (RRU) used in Uni-RAN total solution, It is designed with 3 transmitters. Based on the common new generation RRU platform, R8863 can work in GSM, UMTS or LTE single mode  or Multi-Mode in the same frequency band. The document is designed to give an overview of the characteristics of R8863, its key  benefits, the architecture, functionality and services, as well as the system capabilities.

Benefits 

R8863 provides the following benefits to operators.

The compact RRU design enables operators to uses only one R8863 module  instead of three RRUs for one three-cell site. Higher integration brings fewer modules, less space, lower load-bearing requirements and faster installation  procedure.

ZXSDR R8863’s PA adopts advanced efficiency enhancement technologies to  achieve high power efficiency, including Doherty PA, DPD linear technology and  MCPA technology. With these features, RRU power consumption gets a remarkable  decrease.  

It flexibly supports GSM, UMTS and LTE systems by software configuration.  Instead of running hardware on independent platforms for each technology,  operators can implement various wireless technologies in software on the same hardware platform. With two R8863, it supports LTE system.  

Passive thermal dissipation design also contributes to power saving and less noisy. 

The operation and maintenance of one single wireless network with fewer modules  is much simpler than multiple system networks. Fewer engineers are required and  less implementation to be taken for system interworking or upgrade. 


Application Scenarios

R8863 and one Base Band Unit (BBU) form a complete BTS/NodeB, implementing radio  transmission in the covered area, controlling radio channels and realizing the  communication with the Base Station Controller (BSC/RNC) or EPC. It supports indoor  and outdoor applications.


Functionality

R8863 supports functionalities as follows.

Supports multi-band of 900M/1800M/2100MHz.

Supports three sectors with one way transmitting and two-way receiving for each  sector. 

Supports the configuration of 5MHz/4.8MHz/4.6MHz/4.4MHz/4.2MHz channel  interval for UMTS carrier.

Support the configuration of 1.4MHz/3MHz/5MHz/10MHz/15MHz/20MHz scalable  bandwidth for LTE carrier. 

Supports GSM only, UMTS only, LTE only or GU/GL Dual-Mode. 

Supports 2T2R for one cell by combination of two R8863s which can optimize LTE  spectrum efficiency greatly and improve network uplink performance. 

Supports 64QAM modulation in both LTE downlink and uplink. 

Supports RTWP report interval at 100ms and 2ms. 

Supports transmit power reporting function for every carrier. 

Supports over loading protection function for power amplifier. 

Supports measurement, compensation and adjustment function for channel delay. 

Supports dynamic PA voltage adjustment to achieve the best efficiency in different  system loads. 

Supports transmitting channel switching on/off function. 

Supports built-in lightning protection function for DC power supply.
